Texas high school football is losing its biggest name in the 2027 class. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, the top-ranked prospect on the Rivals300 board, is leaving Cedar Hill and will finish his prep career at Buford High in Georgia.
The decision was framed as a step toward graduating in December, giving Brewster a clearer path to enroll early at the college level while staying sharp on the field. Buford, one of the most loaded programs in Georgia, now adds the nation's most disruptive interior defender to an already deep front.
At roughly 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, Brewster is built like a prototypical interior wrecking ball but moves like a much smaller athlete. He has been committed to Texas Tech since early October, anchoring a Red Raiders class that sits inside the national top 10. Programs such as Ohio State, Texas A&M, Indiana, LSU and Florida have either offered or hosted him this cycle, and the recruitment is expected to keep drawing attention through signing day.
Brewster's junior tape shows a lineman who can collapse pockets, reset the line of scrimmage and chase plays down from behind. His blend of power and short-area quickness has drawn comparisons to elite defensive line prospects, and his testing numbers back up what shows up on Friday nights. He capped his junior season by earning MVP honors at the Under Armour All-America Game in January.
Because Brewster will no longer play Texas high school football, he has been removed from the 5iveStarTexas Player Portal, which tracks in-state prospects only. His senior season at Buford will be one of the most watched campaigns in the country.
