Duncanville has been here before.
The Panthers know what it feels like to make a deep playoff run, play on the biggest stage in Texas and come up just short. After falling to North Shore in last season's state championship, the question heading into 2026 is simple: Can Duncanville bounce back and make another run at the state title?
On paper, the path is there.
Duncanville enters the new season with another challenging schedule that should test the Panthers early and often. Their 2026 slate includes Allen, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Grapevine, North Crowley, Red Oak, Mansfield, Crowley, Waxahachie, Lake Ridge and Skyline. There won't be many easy nights.
A Schedule Built for a Playoff Run
The Panthers won't have the luxury of easing into the season. Games against Allen, Cedar Hill, DeSoto and North Crowley immediately put Duncanville against some of the area's most recognizable programs. Those games could ultimately tell us a lot about what this team is capable of.
Duncanville has consistently been one of the teams expected to compete for the top of Texas high school football, and that expectation doesn't disappear after a loss in the state championship. If anything, last year's finish gives this year's team even more motivation. The challenge will be replacing key production while continuing to play with the physicality and confidence that has become synonymous with Duncanville football.
The State Championship Still Feels Close
Losing to North Shore in the state final doesn't erase everything Duncanville accomplished to get there. The Panthers already proved they can navigate a difficult postseason and reach the final game of the year. Now they have to take the next step.
That's where the experience of returning players becomes important. Duncanville has athletes capable of changing a game in an instant, and the Panthers' ability to build around that talent could determine whether they're playing in December or watching from home. The difference between making the state championship and winning it can come down to a handful of plays. Duncanville knows that better than most.
Can They Do It Again?
The biggest question isn't whether Duncanville has enough talent to compete. It's whether the Panthers can put everything together when the stakes are highest.
A difficult regular-season schedule should give them plenty of opportunities to find out. Every major matchup will provide another test, another chance to build chemistry and another look at how this team responds when things don't go according to plan.
If Duncanville can stay healthy, develop its younger players and consistently perform against the area's top competition, another trip to the state championship is far from unrealistic. But getting back won't be easy. The Panthers have already climbed the mountain once. Now they're trying to do it again — and this time, finish the job.
Duncanville's road back to the state championship starts now.
